Community Composting Bins

When using the community composting bins, please ensure that you shake off the soil, avoid putting in bindweed or horsetail weed into the composting bins.

Use bin 1 first, when this is full, the compost will be moved to bin 2, then into bin 3, before finally being moved into the  Hot Box, composting bin number 4.  By doing this, it ensures that everything rots down to produce a quality compost.

Water Trough & Water Conservation

The taps around the allotment have now been knocked on but in the interest of conserving water supplies, wherever possible please use the water troughs and water butts, in and around the community area.

Portaloo

We also have a portaloo on site at the Vicarage Allotment. This can be found at the top of the main track, leading from the main gates, by the community area.

Fire Safety Advisory 🔥

Tuesday 11th August, 2026 until further notice.

With the current prolonged hot and extremely dry weather, everything on and around our allotment site is tinder dry and the risk of fire is exceptionally high. We are therefore asking all plot holders to please avoid having any fires until conditions improve.

We’ve all invested so much time and effort into our plots, sheds and growing areas, and it would be heartbreaking to see any of that lost through a fire that quickly got out of control.

Our Fire & Rescue Service is also under significant pressure dealing with fires during these dry conditions. The last thing we want is to add to that burden with an avoidable incident on our site. This is an advisory rather than a ban, but please think of your fellow plot holders, our neighbours and our emergency services.

The weeds and waste can wait — please don’t light a fire. Thank You for you cooperation. 🔥👩‍🚒
